\"nearly as bad as Tru did\" hang on hang on, as I\'ve said repeatedly, I\'d never heard of Stone or anything about he/she/it! Just tuned in out of curiosity, desperate for something to listen to. Perhaps ALL the previous series were towering and brilliant. The problem, I suspect, is as TF mentioned, that the episodes and series I stumbled across were NOT written by the man who created them initially.

It\'s true we weren\'t comparing apples for apples, and I, in no way, meant it in a bad way. A word of warning, if you do choose to listen to the whole series, I wouldn\'t expect \"toweringly brilliant\". It isn\'t that at it\'s best, imo. But I do like them.

If you\'d have asked me before this conversation if you would like them Tru, I would have said, \"Doubtful at best\". It never seemed like your kind of thing, really, but you never know.

The thing about McLevy was it was so well thought out, we had regional colour, Victorian historic context, romance, puritanism, spice, mischief and above all, the secret to success: character coherence. The protagonists clicked, it worked. It was FUN!

Couldn\'t agree more! :)

I read an article about how David Ashton would give the skunk eye to anyone who suggested even a minor change to his dialogue, this might sound overly precious but on hearing it he was right IMO, even Brian Cox would be put in his place

And thank God for it! I wouldn\'t change a thing.

I don\'t know if you were aware (I wasn\'t) but Cox lives in New York and he would pay his own fare back to Scotland to record the series. I think that gives an indication of his opinion and commitment to it.

Bless him! Wouldn\'t have worked with anyone else.

The decision to end it was madness, no two ways about it.

Grrrrrrr! :X

I have GOT to listen to The Corrupted. Now is probably the time, since the new ones are coming and there is precious little on at the moment.

T.F. The info you give about Cox ... illuminating, hasn\'t helped regarding my total admiration of the fella, now just have to admire him twenty times MORE!

Jan watch out with the Corrupted it\'s REALLY rough! Surfed a blog yesty about the series, some bad-mouths were saying the writer had wrung just about as much about the story as was possible, that there was nothing more to be got.
So let us see what comes Monday.

You are right I should have checked w/you about Stone, you\'d have gauged it well according to my taste. But hey! Who expects genius all the time? I\'ll be happy to give the early series a go in due course.

Snowy hugs all round

One small word of caution, disappointingly, some of the cast have been replaced, I\'m not sure how much difference it will make, but I know from listening to Home Front when  new season starts and the familiar voice changes it sometimes is a little letdown.

My biggest problem is, I wont listen to it week by week, I have to record it all and then binge listen ,I find I follow it and enjoy it better this way... an age/concentration thing I think.

Binge listening DEFINITELY! Only way to really get into it. Beware the cold turkey after though!

As for \"WW1 Archers\" it\'s become LAMENTABLE! Hardly bothered with it last week, will try the omnibus again this w/e but the playwrights they\'ve got working on it of late have left me in a state of COMA!

Fingers crossed for Monday 14.15 ;-)

The advantage/disadvantage with both changing location AND writers is that it can vary dramatically, add to the same issue as The Corrupted changing cast members, it can mean the flow is interrupted I haven\'t  listed to any of this series yet so will approach with caution I remember the firt time I heard it, a Friday evening returning from a job and I listened for nearly half an hour in which I REALLY thought it was The Archers which I\'d not heard for thirty years (:P)

I see my friend Anton is up for a Radio Award for his part as Cyrus Colville in it.. it\'s bewildering as much as I love him his part is fairly inconsequential and barely registered with me, even as a big fan of his.

Lol....no, I didn\'t mean you SHOULD have asked me....I meant if you HAD asked me. And you\'re genius average is pretty high. :)

I recognized him. And no, his part wasn\'t very big. But he was good....as usual. :)

I got you right first time Jan, no worries! Your initial comment made me smile, as indeed you do gauge my taste pretty accurately. Reference to genius or lack of was aimed at writers, not us@\'.2\'@. (though that does not exclude the possibility of either you or I having any(:P))
