Its upgrade time
« on: June 07, 2014, 08:23:09 PM »
Im running some updates, so things may be wonky for a while. I\'ll update this thread when its all done.

During this time, the forum is read-only to non-admins.

Okay, we\'re back. Sort of.

Might be a couple of bumps while I tidy up but most things should work.

I\'ve had to disable the calendar as it was producing errors after the upgrade, I\'ll dig in to that once everything else is done.

There are also errors being produced when you go to the Recent Messages page, if you scroll down below them the page is working as normal.

The issues with the calendar and \'recent messages\' page have been fixed.

Everything back to normal, with a couple of additions.

Dates are now displayed in a human format in many areas of the forum - so instead of 08/06/2014 you\'ll see \'yesterday\'

You can preview a thread by floating your mouse over its title in the list of threads.

On the main page, at the right hand side of the green banners there are little arrows. You can click these to toggle viewing the lists of sub-forums. If you typically enter the phorum at the main page and then go straight to \'Recent Messages\', you don\'t really need to see the long list of subforums - and toggling them so you just have four green bars with the section names on them makes the initial loading of that main page a great deal faster.

As usual, any problems, post them here.

There\'s a further addition

The home page will now display a mini \'Recent messages\' block, which defaults to displaying the last ten posts.

Combining this with collapsing the folder/subforum lists makes quite a tidy home page.

Excellent, I like that!

Contracting the lists of sub-forums only works if you\'re logged in (for me anyway).

May I again request the use of the 24 hour clock?

The collapse gadget is fun Rick, it allows the surfer to tailor the site to suit his needs.

Thanks again!

I\'m confused about this preview window Rick. It appears when I put the cursor over the subject line of a post, but when I move the cursor away from that point to use the scroll bar on the right of the preview window to read the rest of the message, the window disappears. Am I right in thinking that the scroll bar is not meant to be a functioning part of the preview window?

Additionally, this morning an Ivor post from three days ago is appearing at the top of the Recent Messages list.

One more thing. I did prefer the old way of displaying times/dates of posts. \"Two hours ago\" or \"One day ago\" just seems imprecise and woolly.

IE, the Pamplemouse message covers episodes over 3 days. After I had updated the message, I went into \'Edit\' to check something. As I didn\'t actually change anything the \'Date edited\' wasn\'t changed in the message, but the fact that I went into it was logged in \'Recent Messages\'.

Actually, I prefer the new way. The actual date and time are still available in the post if further clarification is needed.
