BBC News - Technical problems plague BBC online services (21 July 2014 Last updated at 12:39)

Quote
Internal logs of the incident and how it was handled showed that database administrators, network engineers and system analysts were all called on to see if they could diagnose the problem and fix it.

Work continued throughout the weekend to try to stabilise the servers and database supporting the iPlayer and many other BBC services.

The final fixes for the problems were expected to be applied on 21 July when the vast majority of people should be able reach the web-based video services as normal.

The BBC said it would issue a statement when it knew more about the cause of the glitches.

(But I agree, they could have said something to the millions of viewers and listeners affected during the two days while the iPlayer wasn\'t working - even if only \"Sorry, we haven\'t a clue. It\'s probably those evil shape-shifting pixie creatures again.\" )

Yeah! By the evil Russian separatists ... or what? Auntie\'s capacity for co*k ups appears so intense, that my feeling is they\'re an own-goal built in DIY hacker system all of their own! No outside help required!

It\'s the perfect excuse to toss out at the public though, as they sit waiting for a credible explanation for this mess up.

A BBC engineer comments: \"As of this moment in time, going forward, an invasion by evil shape-shifting pixie creatures remains our best theory.\"

It\'s a \"Sorry the server is down\" day again! 8-)

Various programmes DOWN chez Auntie! Oh Glorious Beebotron, that lives to save the listenerhood.

At the Corporation I can\'t get Radio 3\'s Sunday Drama gig.

Nor Robert Roberson\'s remembrance programme on 4x

and loads more.

I hope these are available via the Beebotron. Certainly Poirot is as I am listening as I write.

I have this new laptop now so I know it\'s not that. I\'m still having stream interruptions pretty frequently. The only other thing could be the ISP. Either way, it\'s highly frustrating.

And a couple of days ago for part of the day the 4X website was unattainable! :X

Fortunately other channels were running normally, so the ISP can\'t be blamed for the glitch.
