New forum theme for mobiles/tablets
« on: April 26, 2014, 10:49:17 PM »
Hello folks,

I\'ve enabled a new theme for the forum, designed for viewing on mobiles and tablets. It strips out a lot of the bells and whistles, allowing for a cleaner page presentation on smaller screens while still hopefully preserving core functions.

You wont see it unless you use a mobile or tablet, and it\'ll be used automatically if you do use such a device.

As ever, any problems let me know about them

Rick

Ricklous, I\'m replying to your message on my iPad and to be honest, nothing seems to have changed. I also have your message open on my laptop and the two views are identical.

Sorry, what I wrote above is not true. The four drop down lists above the table of recent messages are now different, on the iPad they are shaded and the click area has a white arrow head on a dark grey background.

The changes are quite subtle.

Nope, you\'re not seeing the mobile theme. Which you should, given you\'re using an IPad. Maybe you need to close it and restart your browser or something like that?

Well rick, I\'ve turned the iPad off and on, turned Safari off and on, and it hasn\'t made any difference. Also, I\'ve just turned on a Kindle Fire HD, and looked at the Phorum for the first time on that, and it all looks very familiar. If it looks the same tomorrow, would you like me to send a screen dump jpg?

Nope, I believe you :)

Thanks for the feedback, I\'ll investigate.

Hi Rick

I\'m on a Nexus 7 - clean look, but with minimal functions, as in I can\'t seem to log out. Does that mean that I wouldn\'t be able to log in if I hadn\'t been logged in (if you see what I mean)?

Cheers, K

PS The home page doesn\'t seem to include a link to Recent Messages - I can get there, but only because that page is bookmarked. Good luck! K

When I attempt to access the reply from Kronalias, I get an error message. Is this because I\'m using my pc and not an eye-pad.

Only on here can you get the answer before setting the question.

You should see the theme on the iPad now. Can you let me know if its worth using on the iPads size of screen? If not I\'ll revert to the normal theme for iPads.

At the moment I\'m testing/using it on my android tablet and if I run into something I can\'t do, going to the browsers menu and selecting \'Request Desktop Site\' and it reloads the site with the normal theme. Login/out is fairly crutial tho so I\'ll look at that.

That\'s working for me now rick. I guess it will take a little time to get used to it. I\'ll feedback any queries or problems.

Aha! When typing a reply, I sometimes like to scroll up to remind myself of the wording of the post to which I\'m replying. I can\'t seem to do that with the new theme.

Rick, I can\'t find \'Request Desktop Site\' in Safari on the iPad.

Rick, on the iPad, the Recent Messages list only has one page, i.e. Page 1. There is no \"Older Messages\" button.

Done - at least partially. On the home page and the sub-forum pages, the lower bar will display a \'PMs\' (Private Messages) button if you\'re logged in, and a \'Log In\' button if you\'re not. To Log out, click the PMs button and right at the bottom of the list of PMs theres a link to log out.
