A Magnificent Sunset over the River Plate
« on: September 11, 2012, 03:59:43 PM »
I\'ve just watched the end of \'The Battle of the River Plate\' on British terrestrial digital TV. The picture was as clear as the days that it was made (1956) - 56 years. Does anyone know if it has been re-mastered?

Apparently there is a re-mastered DVD available. Was that\'s the one shown?  ....that\'s a horse of a different color.

I don\'t know whether TV stations use the DVDs for transmissions.

I don\'t know about over there, but here I know some of them do. I was watching a smaller station one night and the DVD got hung-up and the DVD symbol went bouncing all over the screen until someone finally woke-up and realized what happened. :)

I\'m always pleased when TV shows remastered prints rather than old tatty prints. The Horror Channel\'s current broadcasting of classic Doctor Who uses the remasters made by the BBC\'s own Digital Restoration Team who, now that all the old WHO episodes have been released on dvd, now do odd things here and there. Such as the BFI  recent releases, Look And Read: The Boy From Space, and The Changes.

Studio Canal have been releasing The Avengers (that\'s Mr Steed and Mrs Peel, etc, not Iron Man, Thor, & friends) in dvd box sets and have remastered those quite nicely. :)

We are getting the old Doctor Who episodes over here now. My brother has been really enjoying them. He was the one that got me hooked on The Doctor in the 70\'s.

I think we are also getting The Avengers. Black and white episodes I\'ve never seen have been turning up! :)
