Desert Island Books

A sort of desert island discs for novels (I know you are allowed one),  what would your eight be? I don\'t mean \'what are the greatest novels ever written\' , just what do you re-read and personally hold dear.

For me (in no order):

 Murphy - Samuel Beckett
A confederacy of dunces - John Kennedy Toole
The Masters - C.P. Snow
1984 - George Orwell
Great Expectations - Charles Dickens
Lucky Jim - Kingsley Amis
Catch 22 - Joseph Heller
the ginger man - J.P. Donleavy

Good idea!  Here are mine.  I may start a thread for audiobooks as the list would be different.

The Riddle of the Sands - Erskine Childers
North and South - Elizabeth Gaskell
Wolf Hall - Hilary Mantel
Anna of the Five Towns - Arnold Bennett
Possession - A S Byatt
Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy - John le Carre
The Talisman Ring - Georgette Heyer
Villette - Charlotte Bronte

Before I settle on my choices, do trilogies count as one or three?

.....on the assumption that a trilogy counts as three....

His Dark Materials trilogy (Northern Lights, The Subtle Knife, The Amber Spyglass)  -  Philip Pulman
The Naked Island   - Russell Braddon (non fiction)
Beau Geste  - P C Wren
Declarations of War  -  Len Deighton (short stories)
The War of the Worlds  -  H G Wells

and one of the discworld series, but which one?

Soul Music  -  Terry Pratchett
I\'m NOT paranoid......thats just what THEY want you to think!!!

In this world you are only allowed one music track, what would it be?
