Printable R4 Extra Listings
« on: April 08, 2011, 11:53:09 PM »
Hello.

I promised a small band of R7 messageboarders that I\'d indicate here when my printable version of weekly Radio 4 Extra listings had been produced.

I hope I\'m not treading on anybody\'s toes.....

The Radio 4 Extra listing for the seven days beginning 09/04/11 has been posted at the following permanent link:

http://www.mediafire.com/radio-lists

An on-line listing in the form of a blog, which contains links to the Radio 4 Extra pages and also to the iPlayer (high quality, non-real audio version only) is here:

Clicked the first link Andrew and got entrapped at a page determined to make me download software which needed to be \"shared\".

As someone profoundly technologically challenged .. after trying in vain to dispel the ads and or scroll down said page in the hope of discovering some relevant data ... ultimately gave up and fled!

I haven\'t checked the download process for some time, but have just looked: it does seem to be a bit confusing.  But I presume you got past the initial list of files, and clicked on R4x_0409-0415.pdf.  I then get a box towards the top right labelled \'Click here to start download from Mediafire..\'  Clicking on that starts the download.

If you venture to try again and still get problems, please let me know, and I\'ll investigate alternative methods.

Andrew, I have made your OP \'Sticky\'. The topic will always appear towards the top of the R4 Extra Matters.

Tru, the adverts are a regular occurrence. I always scroll down to the bit that I want.

Ivor - many thanks for making the posting \'sticky\'.  It certainly makes things simpler for me!

If people are having problems with the adverts, please complain here.  If it\'s a big problem I\'ll investigate an alternative site.

Google Docs might be easier.  At first it seems that you have to print direct from the site, but if you click on Files at the top LHS, there is an option to download the original.  If you sign up for a Google account, you can email it to yourself.  I\'ve posted a copy of this week\'s listing on Google Docs here:

I tend to view adverts as a necessary evil, in order to receive data that I require. In case anyone has not used the facility, I will append my procedures. I don\'t claim that this is the definitive method, or even well thought out, but here goes:

When I enter the MediaFire site, I select the R4x... file that I require (I actually download both files separately). When the screen fills with the adverts, I use the right-hand scroll bar to move down the screen until I can see \'Click here to download from MediaFire\'. I select this and click OK in the download box and save the file. I then return to the MediaFire and repeat the process for the other file.

Having done this, I exit from the site and use the entries in the download box to populate my pc. I save the .rtf file to my desktop for immediate viewing and the .pdf file for my records and for printing.

Follow-up to my earlier post Andrew.
1st: Yes, the listings are now successfully downloaded. Thank you for the hand-holding. A great service indeed. (tu)

I think what transpired earlier was that I had the impression I was being told to upgrade software in order to be able to use Mediafire (which is apparently necessary to access the listing files).

Evidently I hadn\'t cottoned to the procedure and instinctively shied away from downloads of unfamiliar software, so just turned chicken, picked up my skirts and ran. 8-)

Andrew, I\'ve downloaded the .rtf version, but am struggling with the .pdf version. Is me that is at fault?

Ivor:

I\'ve just downloaded the .pdf version myself without any problems.  I suggest you try again: Mediafire does seem to be temperamental at times - it took two attempts to upload the .rtf version yesterday.

I have just downloaded the .pdf version of R4 Listings; it opens my download pop-up window and allows me to \'Save File\'. However, when I try R4X, the pop-up window does not appear and the page is labelled \'R4x_0423-0429.pdf (application/pdf Object)\'.
