Hi All

I've just popped into the forum for the first time in ages, read this and am absolutely gutted.

What a lovely lady - I am so grateful to have met her, albeit in a virtual way. The world could do with more people like her.

RIP Jan, with a heavy heart, K

Better late than never ...

HNY all, been a while since I've been here, and it's nice to see that things are still going!

Cheers, K

Beautiful piccies Rick - so pleased for you & Claire! It\'s been a real delight knowing, and meeting you and your family.

You\'ve had my views in an email - but to condense it for others, whatever you want is good for me!

I thank you so much for helping me - this site started with me trying to expand the open source ethos to a free ethic for, in those days, access to BBC Listen Again on things (pocket PCs, early tablets etc) that wouldn\'t work with the BBC site.

Oh, how things have changed since those days!
Who know what the future holds?
But there will always be a place for people like Rick, who are willing to make the effort.

Perhaps the Beebotron has already made a small improvement....

Ages ago, when the Beebotron was embryonic, I had an email from the then head of Future Media in the BBC, asking whether he could give me a ring and have a chat.

Course we could, and we did. Surprised me, the Beeb didn\'t moan - they were quite supportive.

Actually, they weren\'t that supportive - there was no funding, no help and nothing else - but at least they didn\'t threaten the Beebotron with a takedown notice or anything like that.

Best for the future, make sure it\'s there, I\'ll be lurking (as always) K

Hi Tru

This appears to be a new use of the word \'fun\' of which I was previously unaware.

Good to hear from eu, K

Congratulations Rick

What a great thread - and isn\'t it nice to have some good news in the world!

Nothing to do with the thread, but isn\'t it lovely to see Mat back?

Cheers, K

PS Also best to IE. I think.

Happy Christmas to one and all ...

It\'s quiet around here. I tend to lurk these days, but I\'d like to wish these people all the best:

Rick (hero), Ivor, Tru, Jan (miss you), Mat (please come back - it\'s Xmas, so it has to be worth a shout!), Andrew, Parsival et al.

All the best for Christmas and let\'s hope next year is more peaceful...

The Pub - Open All Hours / Re: When will the U.S. ban guns?
« on: June 26, 2015, 11:24:07 PM »
Quite honestly I\'m sick to the death of Americans defending their attitude toward guns whilst their record of gun crimes is so appalling.

The situation in the US can get no worse.
So, US, you need to stop farting about and do something.

Simple solution - start with a trial total ban on hand guns. And see what happens.

We banned \'em in the UK and nobody moaned too much.
And we don\'t have your US problem.

Thank God.

Radio Matters / Re: No, no, no, no, no, no, no, NO!

Quite honestly, it doesn\'t look too good for either the Beebotron or Andrew\'s iPlayer Converter site.

Right now I can\'t see a way forward that will preserve the status quo (but I would be delighted to be corrected...)

It\'s been noticeable that Auntie\'s been on the clawback road for some time - e.g. see THIS which has annoyed some users of Smart TVs .

FWIW (in a cold-comfort sort ot way) I tend to download programmes using get_iplayer rather than listening again from a live stream, and my guess is that if you\'re doing the same sort of thing you won\'t be affected too much.

Any bright ideas would be welcomed...

Help / Re: The Beebobodge Lives?

I\'ve just tried the international link and it works in the UK.

I\'m not convinced by your error message Tru - that smacks of being able to get to the link, but being unable to play it because of a lack of codec.

It looks as if you were using Windows Media Player - are you able to have a go using VLC?

Well this is strange

I\'ve just tried this link from the Beebobodge ...

... into VLC (copied the link, VLC => Media => Open Network Stream => paste link) and after a longish while (the thick end of thirty seconds or so) the Navy Lark played.

Could somebody outside the UK have a go at the International Beebobodged link please? Yer tis:

Mayhap all is not as bad as it appeared at first squint...

Hi Rick

I\'m really sorry to report this, but it just isn\'t working for me.

The PM page seems to show all the messages I\'ve ever had on one page, making it impossible to scroll to the bottom.

I also have a 10\" Android with resolution as good as a monitor, and the new look just doesn\'t suit it.

Could you make the theme user-selectable, or provide an opt-out?

Apols for the negativity, K

PS The home page doesn\'t seem to include a link to Recent Messages - I can get there, but only because that page is bookmarked. Good luck! K

Hi Rick

I\'m on a Nexus 7 - clean look, but with minimal functions, as in I can\'t seem to log out. Does that mean that I wouldn\'t be able to log in if I hadn\'t been logged in (if you see what I mean)?

Cheers, K
